Jang Chung-go left-handed pitcher Hwang Jun-seo will wear a Hanwha uniform as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 Korean Professional Baseball Draft.
Hanwha selected Hwang Jun-seo with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 KBO First-Year Player Draft on Thursday at the Grand Ballroom of the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul.
A total of 1083 players participated in this year’s draft, including 782 high school graduates, 296 college graduates, and five other players from overseas amateur and professional organizations.
Jun-seo Hwang was widely considered to be the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. This season, Hwang went 6-2 with a 2.16 ERA in 15 high school games. He has solid command of his pitches and a variety of changeups, including a curveball, splitter, and slider.
With the second overall pick, Doosan selected right-handed pitcher Kim Taek-yeon from Incheon High School. Doosan even prepared a jersey with Kim’s name on it. Kim, who throws a hard-hitting fastball that reaches 150 kilometers per hour, went 7-1 with a 1.13 ERA in 13 games this year.
With the third pick in the first round, Lotte selected Jeon Mir from Gyeongbuk High School, who has excelled as both a pitcher and a hitter. Jeon went 5-1 with a 1.32 ERA in 14 games as a pitcher this year, while hitting .346 with three home runs and 32 RBIs in 27 games.
With the fourth pick, Samsung selected Jang Chung-go pitcher Yuk Sun-yeop. NC selected pitcher Kim Whimungo with the fifth pick in the first round. Kia selected Gangneung-go pitcher Cho Dae-hyun with the sixth pick in the first round and KT selected Busan-go pitcher Won Sang-hyun with the seventh pick in the first round.안전놀이터
Kiwoom exercised the pick it acquired in a trade with LG in July. They drafted two players in the first round alone. They selected Seoul Go pitcher Jeon Jun-pyo with the eighth overall pick in the first round with a pick they acquired from LG.
