New York Yankees right-handed prospect Randy Vasquez (25) lifts the veil.
The Yankees announced Vazquez as the starting pitcher for their home game against the San Diego Padres on Sunday.메이저놀이터 The Yankees currently have a gap in their rotation as Domingo Herrmann is serving a 10-game suspension for a foreign substance violation. Prior to the announcement, the team sent left-hander Nick Ramirez down to Triple-A to make room for Vasquez on the roster.
The Dominican Republic native joined the Yankees in 2018. He worked his way up through the minor league ranks, reaching Triple-A this season. He is 1-5 with a 4.85 ERA and is ranked as the 12th-best Yankees prospect in the 2023 class by MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball. Among pitchers, he ranks fifth behind Drew Storen (sixth), Will Warren (seventh), Richard Fitz (eighth), and Yoenis Gomes (ninth). Vasquez’s fastball averages in the 93-95 mph (149.7-152.9 km/h) range. He has a low-swinging arm and deceives hitters with a cut fastball in the low-80s, a changeup, and a slow slurve.
“Overall, I would say it was a really good season,” said Vazquez, who will make his big league debut. “I had a lot of opportunities in Triple-A to face a lot of different hitters with a lot of big league experience, and I was able to learn from those guys.” The Padres are 29th in MLB in team batting average. Their batting order is lightened by a number of injuries.
But they have plenty of threats, including Juan Soto and Fernando Tatis Jr. Soto and Tatis Jr. are from the same Dominican Republic as Vasquez. “It’s going to be exciting,” Vasquez said, “and I know what I need to do to prepare to face them. So I’m going to focus on that.”
A highly anticipated matchup with Ha Sung Kim will not happen. Kim had to leave the game against the Washington Nationals on Saturday after being hit in the knee by his own foul ball.
